I consider myself an ambitious and passionate person. After hours of
looking into all the possible internship positions in the waves of information
on the internet, I made my final decision of joining TestRite. Many questioned
my decision, more doubted, but I know what I want from the internship, and I
know what I can offer. What I did not expect, is how much more I gained from
this single summer internship.
TestRite is a global conglomerate with years of experience in both trading and retail. Its internship program is incredible, and my two months here in TestRite was truly rewarding. Aside from all the useful knowledge learned during the term, another perk of interning here is that we not only get our own mentors and get to do our very own projects, we’re also given the opportunity to speak to executive managers from different departments each week. It allowed us to get a better perspective of what it’s like working in higher positions, it widened my horizon.
I’ve gained valuable experience in project management, presenting to executive managers, and also from the team of talented individuals. They’re the ones I learned the most from and are the ones who taught me how important it is to increase your EQ and how to do it.
Employees under high pressure are prone to illness ergo age faster, and the cycle continues, especially in a global enterprise like TestRite. However, by strengthening one's mental health and train for a higher EQ, you’ll be able to cope with high-stress situations and deal with problems efficiently. A high EQ means you are more able to control emotions, compose clear thoughts, behave positively and productively regardless of the changes in the environment. Therefore, a high EQ will positively impact your life, as you’re able to act confidently according to your value. To train your EQ means a choice to be disciplined, to think in a different point of view. The habit can be built like children learning to use chopsticks. Once the habit is built, you will be able to face whatever is to come no matter in work or life.
I learned from my colleagues, the way to achieve that is to quit procrastination, understand your emotions, make mistakes but learn fast, put attention on variables you can control, be grateful of even the smallest things, last but not least, to workout.
These are not things they claim, but what I saw.
I know it’s easy to learn from lectures and textbooks, but there are always lessons in "how to live" that can’t be learned until you’ve seen and experience. All the lessons and advice, no matter from my mentor, my colleagues, or my fellow interns, are lego blocks to the lego kingdom I am today.
"Is it worth it?” You ask. 100% yes.
